We are pleased to be partnering with the Town of Tisbury to support Veterans Memorial Park fields. Because of its location in downtown Vineyard Haven and walking distance to the year round ferry terminal (making it logistically easy for visiting teams and New England Revolution coaches), this is one of the most heavily used facilities on the island. In fact, historically, it has been so heavily used in the spring and summer that the Town has felt the need to close it for the fall season. But, with the Field Fund's support – surface and subsurface decompaction and slice seeding – the fields were able to stay open for the 2018 fall season.
Veterans’ hosts many of the MV United (soccer) Island League and Travel team practices and games, as well as adult soccer and softball leagues. This park has an elevation of approximately 3 meters and abuts a marsh. As a result, managing moisture content is an ongoing challenge.
4 acres, irrigated
One 11v11 and one 9v9 multipurpose field, plus two softball fields.
The Town’s Parks and Recreation Department has its own groundskeeping staff and equipment, so they are able to do their own mowing and fertilization in house.
Had been conventionally fertilized; working with Parks and Rec Dept to change over to organic program.
Surface and subsurface decompaction.
Overseeded twice a year.
